How to Make a House Your Home

Turning a house into a home can mean different things to different people. Some believe a home is filled with the laughter of children, a partner to greet you at the door, and loved ones enjoying holidays and making memories. Others believe objects, like curtains, rugs, and beautiful and expensive furniture make a house a home. No matter which side of the fence one falls, we all agree a house is cold and sometimes uncomfortable while a home is warm and inviting.

There are those individuals who believe certain items help to make family memories and therefore make a house a home. Well-worn items or items passed down through generations can make a house a home because of the sentimentality attached to them. They are special because they remind us of our heritage.

Others are of the mindset that family and tradition are what make a house a home. The house where the family gathers for holiday celebrations is generally warm and inviting and considered a home. The house where children are comfortable to be themselves and to use their imagination is generally considered a home. The home where the family actually spends time together and communicates with each other is generally a house that is considered a home.

There are others who believe that color, decorating expertise, upgrading and or building your dream house is what makes a house a home. What we know for sure is there are houses in which you are not comfortable. You are afraid to touch anything or sit anywhere. They are museum like. These types of houses are not homes. But the place where you can put your feet up and be with loved ones is a real home, no matter how old or worn.
