How to Establish a Spending Pattern

To establish a spending pattern in your life, you should first decide on your goals and write them down. Mark each one as either a long term or short term goal. Keep this list posted in a place where you can see them on a regular basis.

Next, you should keep all your receipts and track your spending habits. You can also do this if you only use a debit or credit card. Look at your statements each month and categorize where you spend your money the most. When you see how much money you have and how much you’re spending, it can be a real eye opener. To establish a better spending pattern, you should also not spend more than you make. If you cannot pay your credit cards off each month or within a reasonable time, you do not have a good spending pattern.

Separating an amount to put in your savings each week or month is a great plan to start saving some money. Write down how much your bills are, how much you make, and any other necessities. Give yourself some lee way, and put a little bit of the leftover money away. Be sure not to put all of your extra money away so that you are not tempted to dip into your savings when you want to spend a little extra money.

The most important part of establishing a spending pattern is keeping good records. One way to help save money is to make a list of items your need before you go shopping and sticking to it. You also want to compare different brands. Just because something isn’t a name brand does not mean it is not good. You can save a lot of money buying the same exact product in a generic package.
