When you purchase your home it is usually with the expectation that you will be there for a very long time. But even if you live in an apartment, you can make it a home and not just a place. The first thing you will need to do is analyze what type of person you are. Are you a renaissance person, traditional, early American, French Provincial - just what kinds of things do you lean towards? All of this makes a difference when it comes to the type of home into which you wish to make your house.
Gender also plays a role in your decision. If you are a gentleman on his own, it is a different thing than if you are married and have a wife with children in tow – they have a say also! You do not have to "break the bank" to make your house into a home; all it takes is using the things you have to create a place of warmth, family and welcome.
You can take baskets, old collectibles, and newly purchased things and meld them into a warm, cozy place that everyone in the family can proudly call home. Paint can be used in imaginative ways to decorate the walls, separate large rooms into areas, or even be used on slab floors and buffed to a shine for an easy-to-keep floor. Do not let other people dictate to you what your home should look like; rather, take your clues from your family and from yourself. After all, you know what is best for your lifestyle and what you have or can afford to buy. Don't be limited and think "outside of the box" to come up with a unique place to call home.
