How to Make Your House a Home

The most important thing you can do to make your house feel like a home is to have love there. This includes the love of your family for one another as well as caring for your friends and neighbors.

The most beautiful house in the world with the most expensive furnishings does not mean you have a home. It just means you have a beautiful place to live. Having a house with an atmosphere, mood and character of the family is what makes it feel warm and inviting.
When you have guest, make them feel welcome in your home. Invite them to stop in to visit on the spur of the moment, whether it is just to say hello or if they have a problem that you may be able to help with. Compassion, love, and gentleness will permeate through your home and give your guest or family a haven where they can feel secure and be themselves.

Let your home feel as if it is "lived in.” If it is spotless and everything is in its place, no one will be able to relax. They will be afraid they may mess something up. Now, this does not mean that it should not be clean, just let if feel as if they can make themselves at home and not feel that they can't touch anything. If your guest will be having dinner with you or if it's just your family, have a consistent dinner hour. This gives you time together to relate the day’s events, laugh together and make memories as family. Love is the ingredient that makes your house a home.
